Industry and Health Providers

The Heart Foundation Tick Programme is the most recognised food signposting guide in New Zealand with 98% of shoppers having heard of the Tick.

Tick Licensees
Did you know that 98% of main grocery buyers are aware of the Tick or that two thirds (66%) would buy a product if it had a Heart Foundation Tick, compared to a similar product without the Tick?* This provides a measurable competitive advantage for your brand. Please visit the Tick Consumer Research page for more information.

If you are licensed to the Tick programme you want to be confident that we are doing an effective job promoting the Tick to the main grocery household shopper. Please view our summary of our broad range of marketing activities.

Joining the Tick Programme

The Heart Foundation sets nutrition standards specific to more than 50 types of food. To join the Tick Programme, your product must fit one of our current food groups and it must be independently tested to show that it meets the Heart Foundation nutrition standards for that type of food. Products that meet the nutrition standards are eligible to join the Tick Programme. Your company then pays a licence fee to the Heart Foundation which gives you the right to use the Tick logo on your Tick approved product, packaging and advertising materials.

Tick Food Categorisation

In light of the concerning obesity statistics it is important for the Heart Foundation to promote socially responsible advertising of Tick food products that should be limited in the diet. Tick approved products are now categorised further as either everyday foods or occasional foods. To assist consumer understanding of the categorisation, all products in the Tick Shopping List have been separately categorised as either everyday or occasional foods. Please refer to the Tick Shopping List to assess how your product will be categorised.
